On the third day of the Palace on Wheels tour you
arrive in Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is yet another historical and cultural
city of Rajasthan. Jaisalmer lies in the heart of the Thar Desert. One
of the main attractions here is the Jaisalmer fort. The yellow sandstone
fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently over the city. Explore
the meticulously latticed Havelis with their grand facades. Some of the
prominent Havelis of Jaisalmer are Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli
and Salim Singh-ki-haveli. They are fine examples of the stone carver's
skill. Other attractions of Jaisalmer are the Jain temples, local
handicrafts and sand dunes in the desert.
You can also shop at Rajasthali, the Rajasthan Govt. emporium, for fine
pattu shawls, mirror work and embroidered articles, wooden boxes,
trinkets, silver jewellery and curios. After lunch on board, you will be
taken for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes. Dinner and a
cultural programme at a hotel in Jaisalmer follow. The Palace on Wheels
train leaves for Jodhpur at night.
